We get a lot of requests from customers about non-anodized gearboxes, yes we understand that, customers wants to see precise work and high quality material. Most of our parts are made from EN AW 7075 (aircraft dural has better strenght than structural steel, it’s light, easy to mill, but hard to anodize) and thanks to air humidity it’s getting rust. We did a little experiment and kept gearbox outside in the grass for 24 hours. As you can see, we were surprised too. Gearbox was overrusted and it is imposible to repair it. Only one thing what we don’t anodize are nozzles (because of thin sides). So the other dural parts are anodized for protection from rust.
This is how non-anodized gearbox looks like after 24 hours in grass.
